This talk explores a research project and the resulting node-based toolset (targeted release of prototype mid 2026) designed to fully leverage the emerging Geometry-Node*Grease-Pencil bridge to create sophisticated 2.5D animation styles in an artist-centric rendering framework.
Developed in the context of a diploma research project, the early-alpha toolset will include:
- Lighting nodes that can relight meshes and grease pencil in real time
- procedural stroke and fill generators that can run on live render passes
- clipping and visual ordering solvers that can preserve 2D layers in complex 3D assemblies
- directable level of detail blending for dynamic 2.5D asset creation
- and many more useful nodes relevant to the workflow.
