Blender lacks an oblique projection camera. This issue was addressed in the AlICe laboratory with the development of an add-on, providing a proof of concept for the integration of oblique projection into Blender. The talk gives an overview of projection systems and the relevance of oblique projection in the field of architectural representation – i.e. the study of the techniques and conventions of representing (un)built architecture. We will present a taxonomy of different projection conventions (central, orthographic and oblique projections) and respective images produced in Blender in the context of an architecture research lab.
Julien works in the intersecting fields of architectural representation and the history of science and technology. His research at the AlICe laboratory (Université libre de Bruxelles) examines graphical projection as a technical object, focusing on the algorithmic formalizations of projection in nineteenth-century descriptive geometry and in the early days of computer graphics developments. His w…
