"This should come built-in with Blender!" is the highest praise an extension can get, but would that really improve Blender or user experience? After first few months of the new extensions platform, it is interesting to evaluate what changed for the better by moving add-ons outside of core Blender, and what changed for the worse.
This presentation will go into detail about the development process for add-ons before and after the extensions project, as well as the overall design behind the decision: How an asset-oriented system can benefit users, speed up development, and distribute limited manpower.
